Job objective

Manage, plan, execute and supervise the Shipping Agencies service-related activities such as agency operations, freight services, container services, delivery order services and claims and P&I services, and ensure smooth operation of these sections and compliance with the Milaha business strategies and plans

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of the Shipping Agencies strategies, policies and objectives, as well as the development of medium and short term operational plans to accomplish these objectives in line with Milaha’s vision and mission
  • Reviews and ensures that shipping agencies services and products are delivered in accordance with the established quality standards
  • Responsible for meeting the target KPI performance of the Shipping Agencies section, and takes necessary steps for the performance improvement
  • Takes necessary steps for business development to improve revenue by coordinating with the marketing team & controlling overhead expenses
  • Actively participates in budget preparation of the department with necessary performance forecast, revenue projections, action plans & manpower requirements of the Shipping Agencies department
  • Monitor Shipping Agencies department’s budget and expenditures and provide regular report to the VP – Shipping Agencies on it financial performance
  • Responsible for implementing the necessary procedures and changes in the department as per the action plan of the Management & Audit recommendations
  • Oversees the management and the arrangement for all cargo imports and exports to/from Qatari ports of Doha & Mesaieed, handling any documentation formalities, and ensuring extensive customer care activities
  • Oversees berthing/un-berthing activities for agency vessels, ensure effective loading/dispatching and quality handling of agency vessels customs clearance, immigration and port passes
  • Reviews statistics reports of Shipping Agencies performance, revenue and expense details of as well as manpower details of department
  • Provides technical advice and instructions to ensure effective handling of claim/ insurance, protection and indemnity (P&I), and marine surveys and investigations activities
  • Provides recommendations on new subordinate hires and ensure the availability of all resources required to perform tasks and activities
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in shipping agencies, freight services, container services or a related industry and a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Business fluent English, Arabic is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge in ports management, container terminal operations, general cargo berths, international and local shipping and freight regulations, government regulations, logistics and supply chain management best practices, marine/protection and indemnity claims policies
